"Liberated" ??

If you don't need performance, concurrency, scaling and reasonable pricing - I guess

Tell us how you handle upgrades, when a client maxes out the box?

How about mixed workloads - like from true ad-hoc query users?

What do you charge per TB?

Btw, how is fail over? how long does it take to recover?

While we're on SystemAdmin, what about Backup/Recovery?

you're certainly better than Oracle, but who isn't??

Will Netezza be the next to be acquired?

In the 80s we used to ask "what platform does Oracle run best on" and the answer was "the overhead projector." I guess that is still true today.

Thanks for the insight and for fighting the good fight. It's good to know that your POV is based on your hands-on experience.

Despite the inherent simplicities of data warehouse appliances/machines that allow companies like Netezza, Dataupia and even Teradata to routinely demonstrate multi-terabyte machines at tradeshows, Oracle has opted to showcase an empty Exadata cabinet at the Gartner European BI Summit. However, the spin from Oracle is something about all their inventory being tied up supporting the hundreds of tests going on!!! Some things never change!

Ever since joining the DLM I have found the experience a new form of personal euphioria. While we don't sit around in a sweat-lodge contemplating the future of data processing, and you probably won't find me anywhere near the bridges in Nicaragua (and all those rumors to the contrary are just that!) -

It is important to know that many people have sacrificed much to reach the ultimate goal of data liberation. Every time I lead a strike team to deliver the hostages, I have stark reminders directly before me that our work is not in vain. Yes, it is tough work, perhaps thankless work, but important and necessary - and we will not back down until the hostages are free!

Power to the data! And may accurate, consistenst and deterministic data processing find its way into every household.
